Have owned this item for over 2 years. It has had no wierd functioning problems; when the buttons don’t seem to do the pause or input , it is time to change the batteries! mine has worked very well and i have tried them all! i even refuse to use the other 3 kinds that i own. this one is perfect. i can use it at night, i can turn off the sound, and it has the biggest screen that i have seen which is nice when one is older. One review said that they did not like the fact that it was awkward trying to input all number options before one knew what the number was and altho i agree, that is just how it is with the electronic games, one gets used to it! i would much rather use this and not the books with the pencil and the light. this comes with its own light and stylus and it is easy to just grab it at night and play it till your eyes get bleary and then go to sleep.. mine worked fine after a couple years but the screen got a little scratched from abuse and i misplaced it… i can’t get to sleep without this toy.! I had to but another one! Definately the best one that i have tried on the market.

I have had this product for well over 2 years. I have dropped it, gone through multiple batteries, and I love it. The backlighting makes it the easiest to use of all the electronic sudoku games I have tried, and haveing 2 modes (one that shows you a wrong answer) is great. I play this before bed or in the dark when I am outside on my balcony at night…absolutely love it. My dad gave it to me for Christmas that year…and this year he is getting one for his birthday! lol

This may be a toy but, at age 62, it helps keeps my mind honed. It is intuitively easy to use and comes with an extra pointer for when the original one is temporarily misplaced. It has eight optional levels of play. The only negative comment is that the screen can be difficult to read and is best used where the light level and orientation can be adjusted.

I purchased this game for a relative for Christmas. She seems pleased with the game overall. The only thing, so far, she has found that she doesn’t care for is the way you put the multiple numbers in one square when you are still unsure of which one is correct. It will accept the multiple choices however after they are entered the square just continually blinks the numbers you have put in one number at a time. instead of just showing them in small print all together. This is very distracting and not very helpful. All other features are pretty nice. It is well lit and easy to read. Comes with an extra stylus. Overall nice product for a fair price.

OK, I am enjoying the whole Sudoku game, but not this way. The screen is so hard to make out, mostly in natural lighting. I take it in the car with me and it is so hard to see, especially in the sunlight, that is kind of ruins the fun of the game. It is durrable, and have had no problems with the unit as a whole, just the screen issues.
I have owned it for 3 months now.

Being a big Sudoku fan, I couldn’t wait to receive this as a gift, so I bought it for myself. There is not much difference between the conrast of the grid and numbers to that of the screen. The inability to read the handheld version makes it a waste of money. I promptly repacked mine and returned it to the store.
Sudoku puzzles are very Fun so I reccomened you skip the handheld version and buy yourself a book!

I addict to Sudoku. So when I saw this game, I could not resist. I was very disapppointed with the display. Difficult to see the numbers. You could see yourself in the display better than you could see the numbers. It could hurt your eyes if playing for a long time. It is not worth the money. I am going to return the game.

Great idea but more tech development is needed for this version. Screen reflects too much outside light obfuscating the LED numbers. The numbers have low contrast and their improvement is not achieved by the technique suggested to where they can be easily seen. The lines between the groups of 9 square blocks are not prominent enough making block determination difficult. The unit is actually hard to see clearly to be enjoyable to use. I would skip this model and investigate other manufacturers editions.

I was pleasantly surprised to see this one when a friend gifted me this. It is very attractive and looks cool. All my excitement to explore this toy kinda bit dampened the moment I got the this powered up. It’s the display, lack of backlight to be specific. In other words, this won’t work in dark. Without the backlight, reflection on the glass is very distracting. In addition, in playing mode, the digital background of the cell indicating the number for unfilled cell also can be distracting. That’s why this item gets 3 stars. If one can ignore this inconvenience and get used to this gadget, it’s very simple to play.
I like the intuitive interface. Stylus based operation is simple. Users can choose different levels for varied levels of difficulty. I found even the basic or level 1 to be not that easy .
I look forward to version with a backlight.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my sister, who has difficulty seeing due to cataracts in both eyes. She is a Sudoku addict, and had been solving puzzles with pencil and paper until I gave her the electronic version. With the backlight feature, and different levels of contrast, I hoped that the handheld game would be easier for her to see.
Because of the mixed reviews I had seen, I asked her for feedback about this game. When buying, please note that there may be more than one model of this game available. Some of the reviews refer to older model(s). My comments refer to model 20720, Illuminated Sudoku Mega Screen. The unit measures about 4″ wide by 5 1/2″ long, with screen size of about 2 1/2″ wide by 3 1/4 in” long.
My sister says the display is easy to see. The screen is fully illuminated, with orange backlighting, and 9 levels of contrast.
There are two modes of play, Beginner and Advanced. Each mode offers four difficulty levels, from 1 (easiest) to 4 (most difficult). So far my sister has been playing in Beginner mode, level 4. In this mode, if you put a number in the incorrect box, the number flashes to let you know that it is in the wrong place. To clear an entry, just touch the “C” at the top of the screen, then touch the box on the grid to be cleared.
My sister has been playing this game every night since Christmas, and she really likes it. It was worth every cent — and then some!
